QuickBooks Error Code 1328

QuickBooks Point of Sale software since the time of its inception has modified the way retail business is handled where sales and purchase orders are concerned. This error generally crops up when an update to the software has been made through other sources and the patch can no longer be modified. The main reason behind this issue is related to temporary files (.temp files) stored in folder called config.msi that interrupts the process of update or repair in QuickBooks Point of Sale software. This folder (config.msi) is temporary archive on a system used in order to place scripts that are generally required in rollback of installation process in case the software fails initially. Although once the software is properly installed and working pristine condition the file stored gets deleted, at times they don’t and also do not get removed even after trying manually. This is when the QuickBooks Error Code 1328 occurs.

The same error can also crop up due to installation mismatch. Suppose user has installed QuickBooks Point of Sale 2007 version but is employing license of a different one. In such scenario the user might face issues in completing installation process completely and successfully.

It is however, to be noted that as the user does not know which resolution will work it is advised to the follow the solution in the same pattern as illustrated below. Furthermore, it is also recommended to try to open the software after trying every solution in order to ensure that the issue is resolved or not.

Solution QuickBooks Error Code 1328

Resolution 1: Re-evaluating the config.msi folder

In case the error message crops up with three options, namely, Abort, Ignore and Retry, then the obvious course of action is to rename the config.msi folder located on the desktop. This solution is chosen as the temporary files stored under this folder are preventing the software to get updated or repaired.  

This folder (config.msi) is temporary archive on a system used in order to place scripts that are generally required in rollback of installation process in case the software fails initially. Although once the software is properly installed and working pristine condition the file stored gets deleted, at times they don’t and also do not get removed even after trying manually.

In order to locate and rename the config.msi folder, follow up the steps detailed below:

  • Go to start button icon followed by selecting the Explorer option in order to open the Windows Explorer.
  • Now locate, select and double click on C: drive.
  • In order to view Hidden Files & Folders as well as Protected Files of Operating System:
    • Hidden Files and Folder:
      • Go to Tools, Folder Options followed by View Tab, clicking on Hidden files and folders and then selecting option Show hidden files and folders, ending with Apply and OK tab options
    • Protected Files of operating System:
      • Go to Tools, then Folder Options followed by View Tab and then clicking on Hide Protected Operating System Files to deselect it ending with Apply and OK tab options.
  • Now locate and right click mouse over config.msi folder followed by selecting Rename option.
  • In the new space add .old after the name of the file and then enter button. This should name the file as config.msi.old.
  • Now to end the process hide both of the Hidden files & folders as well as the Protected Operating System files by following steps:
    • Hidden Files and Folder:
      • Go to Tools, Folder Options followed by View Tab, clicking on Hidden files and folders and then selecting option Hide hidden files and folders, ending with Apply and OK tab options
    • Hide Protected Files of operating System:
      • Go to Tools, then Folder Options followed by View Tab and then clicking on Hide Protected Operating System Files to select it ending with Apply and OK tab options.  

Once the resolution is complete and renaming has been done successfully, try to perform update, repair, uninstall or install process. If the error still crops up either select ignore button till the process gets completed or move onto second resolution. In case the user is novice in terms of computer usage, many technicians recommend getting support from computer experts.

Resolution2 – Resolving by Cancelling the Process

At time when the QuickBooks Point of Sale Error Code 1328 crops up it only comes with two options, namely, Retry or Cancel. First try to work the process by selecting Retry option. If that doesn’t work then click on Cancel and follow the steps given below. There are three steps in total, of which it is quite possible that the first one itself might resolve the issue. However, if that is not the case user might have to work all three in order to resolve the problem. For best and quick response it is recommended to follow the steps in which they are given.   • Reinstall QuickBooks Point of Sale: User can easily reinstall the software from the authentic download link provided on the website of Intuit or QuickBooks. First and foremost the user should uninstall the currently downloaded QuickBooks POS version with clean uninstall tool of QuickBooks.
